Since I learned more about the md extension and git I got all my notes across some private repositories.. yet it was somewhat a struggle to view, link, write and retrieve the notes or even to create lists or charts. I heard about obsidian before, but some days ago I decided to give it a try, what an absolute joy to use it. All my notes, code samples, images, ideas and links just worked from the get go.

Thank you so much for your "essentials only" approach to this course! Every other "basic" tutorial I found focused on the wrong things, was still too overwhelming, narrowly specific, and jargony. This course and this last video made me realize I just need to start writing and then organize things as I go, recognizing my brain's patterns needs as they arise, as the tool was designed for. Now, I'm just writing!

6 minutes in and my ADD is spiraling. This app just seems like a non-sequential tangled web of thoughts that are interconnected and in no way laid out in an organized manner which is exactly the opposite of what my brain needs.

I can empathize with that feeling. Please know that many people who are neurodivergent have found great calm with apps like this. Yes, there is a learning curve. But on the other side of the curve, there are skills to finally reclaim a resilient form of clarity. No need to rush it though, just don't completely close the door on these tools

For someone with ADHD, I thought this software would be nice but I just cannot get past how overwhelming this UI looks. I would love to have something that has graphs and shows the relationships, but for me personally the UI needs to be effortless. I tried it just now on PC and mobile but its way too text heavy for me.

Pen, ruler, highlighters and paper are always slightly superior - especially when computers limit you to horizontal line after line. I believe the global warming issue is an industrial problem which few people are responsible for.

I drink exactly 1 coffee per day (espresso as I'm Italian) and follow some rules. First, at least 1h has to pass after I wake up before drinking it. Second, I cannot have it after lunch, as that can affect sleep quality. That single coffee seems to help me go through my entire day with a better mood and an illusion of more energy. I will try to stop it completely now that I went fully vegan and started exercising again, as those 2 things combined should replace caffeine. at least in theory

I am so grateful to have found your channel. I only wish I would have found it earlier! Better late than never. You and Tiago Forte are my heroes now. I literally am just discovering this Second Brain/ Zettelkasten/ Obsidian world only a few weeks ago and it feels like something I have been waiting for my entire life. I feel like I intuitively have wanted to keep detailed notes like this my entire life but felt insane for even having the thought. It’s like I finally have the permission to do it and explore and get all my thoughts, passions, ideas, and curiosities out of my head and down onto “paper” or into the digital world. Obsidian is LIFE CHANGING! I can’t believe I only learned about it a few weeks ago!!! 😭😭😭 Thank you for this! I can’t wait to devour more of your content. Makes me so happy 💖💕💖🙌 Appreciate you and your passion for PKM!

??Basic (probably 'friction') question?? I'm thinking about using Obsidian to put notes into that I've collected in various formats like pdf and doc/docx. I also might have spreadsheets I'd like to add to the system if that's possible. When getting started, is there a way to just copy and paste (probably and outdated term now) my notes into the system? Can I then add the bracket links to connect them to the information they convey (people, libraries, states, subject, time-period, and future actions (places for more research, research questions, etc). This might sound odd, but it is for a genealogy research project that has multiple layers. I thought that one of these types of programs might offer me a better way of looking at the research while keeping my "known" information and research location information connected. I've been trying to understand if Obsidian or Notion might be helpful. I like the idea that Obsidian would keep my thoughts and tasks "my own", but I anticipate using a computer and the need for note reference with a phone/tablet while at research archives. This is all very foreign to me because I'm not in the same generation as those who are obviously using it....sorry if I'm presenting too much 'friction' (love that term by the way).

In a world where people used Obsidian to catalogue their thinking... imagine the archives! If we could follow a link on Black Holes... directly into the archived cloud of Stephen Hawkings own contemporaneous thoughts on the subject? We'd wander through the thoughts of those long gone and truly get an insight... not just into what they believed, but how they viewed the world around them. Imagine the historic significance! Can you imagine the graph of, say, Isaac Newton? Not just his thoughts on scientific topics - but on world events, philosophical musings, people he'd heard speak, articles he'd read, ideas he'd pondered? I believe that we need to make obsidian a part of our lives. Not just for our study notes... but for code ideas, recipes, general musings, a diary of daily thoughts and amusements. And we should be able to share aspects of this cloud with others... either in the moment, or after we've gone. I can't imagine a greater legacy to leave behind, than an entire lifetime of interconnected thoughts.

I love all of this - now I really really need someone to get obsidian to do proper ordered list outlining. In a proper Outline, it's different ordered lists all the way down except for the ocassional bulleted list. Capitol Roman numerals, then capital Letters, then numbers, then lower case letters, then lower case roman numerals... Etc. that might not be the exact ordering of priority but that's what I want when outlining something because that's how I learned how to outline, especially when it the ordering of information REALLY MATTERS, like when you're working on outlining a story you want to write. There's even some variance on if you use periods or not and it frustrates me to not have that sort of thing. Or if it's available, I haven't figured it out yet, and would love help with it.
